VP/Partner, Corporate Development, Chicago

Are you interested in being integrated into a company where you have significant impact on how their business grows and flourishes?  Do you want to be the one driving your career with the support of a world-class organization?  If so, you need to read on.

Our client is looking for a VP/Partner of Corporate Development in Chicago.  You will lead and own the entire internal M&A activities for the firm.  This includes all their offices and all their industry practices. Their goal is to be a $1B firm by 2025.  They will do this by both organic growth as well as acquisitions.  Their target is about 25% growth from acquiring additional firms.  You will have direct impact on the firm’s strategic direction, top-line growth and profitability.  You also have equity in the company.  You don’t have to buy into it, take out a loan, or wait until a certain level.  It’s yours from the day you join.

You and your team will scan the markets for potential acquisitions, then contact and lead the research into new targets, as well as map and segment the national marketplace.  You will attend industry conferences, read industry publications, and build an extensive network of industry contacts to stay on top of trends in the consulting M&A space.  You own transaction sourcing.  You will leverage and build a network of relationships nationally to secure executive level introductory meetings to encourage business owners to consider partnering with our client via acquisition and/or invest in joint ventures.  You will lead all aspects of acquisitions and investment pursuit, as well as manage through the Our client sales process.  This includes qualifying acquisition targets, both internally and externally, negotiating, and creating and driving outbound perspective programs into new targets.  You will identify and develop unique alliance partners such as investment bankers that can drive targets to our client.  You will own the transaction execution and provide leadership of the acquisition pursuits and due diligence process.  You will lead the negotiation of transaction related documents such as IOI, Term Sheets, LOI, etc.  You will continually review transaction methodology to improve and enhance results. You will manage the internal corporate development team.

Fast forward a year.  What will you be doing?

You have a clear sense of our client’s wish list regarding acquisitions. You have buy-in from the executive team.  You will be working closely with senior leadership. You have dramatically improved sourcing efforts to produce deals.  This includes outbound efforts of building relationships with investment banks to ideally drive up deal volume.  When there are no active deals in the pipeline, you are at conferences and networking.  You have a very consistent process that runs 12 months of the year.  You have strong stakeholder management, both internally and externally.  This includes the investment banking community, operators, and Our client’ internal shared services team.  You are fully integrated into the company, within the team, and within the culture of the firm.  You are successful.  You are happy. You are viewed as a respected leader throughout the organization.
